Famous Psychics
At one time or other, we’ve probably
thought that a psychic could help us with
a major decision or shed some light on
a particular event in our life. Regardless
as to whether or not we believe in their
“powers”, the likes of Joan
of Arc and John Edward simply fascinate
us. The fact that they can communicate
with the dead (as John Edward does) or
hear voices (like Joan of Arc did) appeals
to our sense of the unknown and to our
curiosity regarding mysterious phenomena.
Joan of Arc and John Edward aren’t
the only psychics or mediums who are famous
and known to the public. Here you will
find several others, as well as a little
information about them and their individual
practices of divination.
Nostradamus:
Born on December 14, 1503, in St. Remy
de Provence, Michel de Nostradame, or
Nostradamus, was a clairvoyant who used
science to interpret his visions. He was
often referred to as the prophet of doom
because many of his visions were of death
and war. The followers of the Nostradamus
Prophecy claim that he predicted the rise
of Hitler, the French Revolution, the
Great Fire of London, and the tragic destruction
of the space shuttle Discovery. Read on
and learn about the Nostradamus
prophecy.
Joan
of Arc: Born in 1412 in Orleans, Joan
of Arc was able to hear voices (clairaudience)
at a young age. As a teenager, these voices
encouraged her to lead the French Army
against the English at Orleans. At the
age of 19, Joan of Arc was burnt at the
stake as a heretic.
John
Edward: John Edward is known for his
television show called Crossing Over in
which he passes on accurate, detailed
messages from deceased souls to their
family members. He has also written a
number of books, including an autobiography.
Madame
Blavatsky: Born in 1831, Madame Blavatsky
was of Russian background. She was one
of the founders of the Theosophical Society
which aimed at reconciling all religions
and sects using common eternal truths.
She is accredited with having influenced
modern Occultism. Madame Blavatsky died
in 1891 and was exposed as having used
trickery to perform some of her acts.
Jose
Arigo: Born in 1918, this Brazilian
performed psychic surgery. It was believed
that he could remove tumors and perform
other surgical operations without having
the patient feel the pain of an incision
and/or without them becoming infected.
He was eventually arrested for practicing
medicine illegally but he continued to
treat people while in prison.
Uri
Geller: Of Israeli descent, Geller
is mostly known for his psychokinetic
powers and has been performing his feats
for many years. He was shown bending spoons
and other metal objects with a few light
strokes or taps on television. Audiences
often reported that during his shows,
household items would break.
Jeane
Dixon: Considered the “grandmother”
of all pop psychics, she rarely appeared
on television. She became a celebrity
when in 1956 she predicted that a Democrat
would be elected as the next President
in 1960 and would die while in office;
John F. Kennedy was elected and assassinated
in 1963. Subsequently, skeptics coined
the term “the Jeane Dixon effect”
which is used whenever a psychic gets
a prediction right while his/her wrong
ones are simply ignored.
